A shameful day for India

A country that can not welcome writers like Salman Rushdie must not expect high hopes of intellectual achievements coming out of the country. Government’s refusal to provide security to him is very condemnable but totally expected. No government will touch this issue in the election year.

  1. It is up to each of us to consider a writer intellectual or not. For you he is not an intellectual and for me he is.

I guess there are sufficiently many of us who think that he is an intellectual. Therefore, he should be freely allowed express his opinion in a literary fest. And, we can freely discuss if his words are worthy of respect or not. We may end up agreeing or not. We should at least agree on that no threat of violence should be used. If such a threat is there then the government should ensure his safety.
